Originated From Sweden
Swedish cinnamon rolls, also known as cinnamon buns, is the English name for the very popular and oh, so tasty Swedish cinnamon rolls. Originated from Sweden, this bun rolled its way to northern Europe and spread overseas, to finally roll its way in to the Northern American households. On its journey, this little bun has taken on many shapes, sizes and flavors. However, in Sweden, it is still much the same as it has been for generations.
In Sweden, a Coffee Break is Always Welcomed
In Sweden, a coffee break is what's called "fika" and is always a warm welcome to the Swedes. They will not miss an opportunity to sit down for a nice cup of coffee, when the time comes for a well deserved break. If it's the workplace, home or out on the town it doesn't matter, as long as the coffee is freshly brewed and strong. Moreover, if there will be a freshly baked cinnamon roll or two, to go with that cup of coffee, well...then its just sheer bliss of happiness!
Our Cookbook
It was in the beginning of the 1920s, the cinnamon roll was born. However, to enjoy this tasty pastry you had to buy them from the bakery. It was not until the 1950s, when the Swedish, Our Cookbook published the recipe for cinnamon rolls, and the housewives at those times started to bake the buns in their own ovens, when this pastry became hugely popular.
Easy Swirl
In the earlier times the roll would be sprinkled with cinnamon and nib sugar. Furthermore, the bun would be shaped into time-consuming and elaborated shapes and sizes. However, a decade later when more and more women started to leave home for work, and there were less time for the kitchen, the bun soon established itself into an easy, straightforward swirl.
