In this era of IT boom it is estimated that out of 10 graduates from India, almost 5 ends up in IT field. Programing and networking are the the two main streams of job opportunities in Information technology. For candidates who are interested in networking knowledge about cisco certified network associate (cisco) is inevitable.

A ccna certified individual means he has the ability to configure, install, trouble shoot and operate medium sized switched and rout networks .CCNA cariculam includes the use of protocols like Internet protocol (IP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2),VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs).

The legacy of CCNA
CCNA was first offered in 1998 as an entry level certification in cisco networking. At that time only CCIE certification was there. But CCIE was a difficult exam for most aspirants, so CCNA was introduced by Cisco to encourage more participation in the area of networking.

Soon CCNA became one of the most popular certification in networking. The syllabus for CCNA was revised in the years 2000 and 2002. Only one exam was conducted in the year 2003 and a two path exam was introduced. Later in 2007 CCNA was revised again and was introduced as CCENT.

The certification course CCNP was released after the mass approvel of CCNA , CCNP acts as an intermediate certification and a starting step for CCIE

How to win a CCNA certification
To win a CCNA certification one must pass the CISCO exam #640-802 or should get the passing scores in both ICND 1 (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1) #640-822 and ICND2 #640-816 exams.

Passing the ICND1 gives the cisco certified entry networking technician certificate. The curriculam includes IP ,frame relay, EIGRP RIPv2, access control lists, ethernet and vlans . The questions will be a mixture of drag and drop, multiple choice and stimulations

Future scope of CCNA
Technology is evolving time to time, many innovative technologies have been invented for making communication more cheaper, faster and less complex. In 2008 a router could connect two or more routers and do some basic security functions but today a cisco router can not only connect multiple routers but also can provide voice capabilites, run a fire wall or give wireless access to rest of the office.

Cisco is also adapting to the new trends in technology and listening to the consumer needs. In June 2008 Cisco released CCNA security, CCNA voice and CCNA wireless so the professionals can do networking in a faster and better way

There are a number of job openings in networking sector and there will be lot more in the coming years, in short a trained CCNA professional can fill his vallet with not much effort.
