What Instrument Should You Play?

So you're interested in learning how to play an instrument. The problem is that you don't know what instrument you should play, right? With so many available instruments to choose from, how do you decide? You have the glamorous rock'n'roll instruments such as the electric guitar, the bass guitar, or the drums. You could also choose to play a band instrument so you can play in your school band someday. Here are some tips and advice to help you make the decision of what instrument you should learn how to play. Everybody is different and there is no one right answer to this question. Ultimately you should decide on an instrument that you will have lots of fun playing. That is the whole point, isn't it?

How much can you afford to spend on a musical instrument?
How much you can afford to spend on a musical instrument is definitely a large consideration when deciding what instrument to play. Some instruments can be extremely expensive to play and other ones you can find for next to nothing.


What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
Think about the music you like to listen to. What instruments to they play? What do you think the instruments are that stand out the most in your preferred music?


What kind of personality do you have?
Are you outgoing and loud? Are you quiet and shy? Often times the instrument that a person chooses to play reflects they type of person they are.


What instruments do your friends and family play?
If you have any friends or family members that play an instrument ask them what their advice is. See if you can try playing their instrument and maybe even have them give you a beginner lesson or two so you can get a feel for it.
How are you going to learn your instrument of choice?


What method of learning an instrument do you want to use?
Are you going to take private music lessons or are you going to teach yourself. Maybe you plan on having a friend teach you or want to learn at your school.


As you can see there are some questions that you need to think about before making your decision! Good luck and I really hope that you don't just sit around deciding what instrument you should play. Take action and go out and discover the joy of playing a musical instrument for yourself!
