The second symbol for Reiki or "Sei Hei Ki" and it generally means 'God and man become one'. This symbol helps unite the mind and body. This symbol is basically used to help the patient bring out his mental troubles so he can release himself of them. This symbol can also help cure people who may be addicted to drugs, alcohol and smoking. It can also help you lose weight and improve your memory.

The third symbol for Reiki or "Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen" has two meanings. It can mean either 'No past, no present, no future' or 'The Buddha in me connects with the Buddha in you'. This symbol can be used to transmit energies over a distance. Time and distance form no impediment while using this symbol and thus is considered by some Reiki practitioners as the most powerful of the Reiki symbols.

There is a fourth symbol for Reiki called "Dai Ko Myo" or the Attunement Symbol. This is the most sacred symbol of them all, and it is only used by those who have received the highest degree in Reiki. This is why just three symbols are introduced when studying the second level of Reiki. The fourth symbol is introduced at a later time. It is considered the symbol for insight and wisdom, and used to cleanse the aura, soul and spirit of a person.

In general, the symbols are used to enhance the flow or universal life energy, as well as to focus the intention on the healing target.
