The Usui Reiki system is actually introduced by a Japanese teacher (sensei) and a devoted Buddhist named Dr. Mikao Usui. He discovered this system by coincidence when he was focusing on his meditation in Mt. Kurama on his twenty-first day of meditation exercise. This system is also called "Usui Reiki Ryoho" which is used in the form of spiritual energy called "universal life energy" and its main purpose is to be used for spiritual, mental, emotional and physical healing. A reiki treatment takes effect when a trained practitioner or master is in oneness with the symbols and transmits the energy into the recipient.

The symbol's functioning is full of mystery because it is spiritually guided and in the form of energy that functions directly on the subconscious mind of the practitioner, which transmits the energy into the recipient's body that may cause healing in varying aspects. The symbols can actually be activated in numerous ways such as saying the symbols' name to oneself or to everyone around, mentally visualizing the symbols' image or drawing them on a paper or in mid-air with the use of the hands.

The symbols used by the practitioner depends on the need of the recipient. The practitioner incorporates oneness to a particular symbol and transmits the energy that is sealed within the symbol to the body of the recipient. The usui reiki symbols' effectiveness depends on the practitioner and recipient because the practitioner should be trained and the recipient should open himself to receive healing.

I find that using Reiki symbols or just the moment of activating them through thought and writing them on the inside of my palms is in itself calming, I would even go as far as saying that it has a healing effect on me, knowing, understanding and fully feeling the free flowing Reiki energy and the good intentions that come along with using Reiki symbols for healing.

In fact, the more you practice the more powerful these symbols will feel to you and the more powerful they will become.
